At the end of November, as an employer, you will receive the Werkhervattingskas (Whk) assessment for the following year. This is determined through a complicated calculation. In practice, it turns out that in more than 65% of cases, mistakes are made in this calculation, causing employers to pay too much in premiums.

Whk Assessment
For all employers—unless you are a self-insurer—the Tax Authorities issue the Whk assessment using data from two years ago. In the appendices of the assessment, you can see which data have been used for this purpose. The amount of the premium is determined, among other things, by the sector in which you operate, the size of your company, and how much WGA and Sickness Benefits (ZW) have been paid out for (former) employees. Because of all these different components, the calculation is very complex.
Checking can save thousands of euros
What we often see is that employers do not check the Whk assessment. They blindly assume that the calculation is correct and proceed to payment. In this way, there is a high chance that you are paying too much in premiums, as truly bizarre mistakes are made. For example, we see employees listed who have never worked for the employer, or an employer is classified in the wrong sector. A proper check can easily save you (tens of) thousands of euros.
Having your Whk assessment checked
At De Verzuimmakelaar, we can help you check the Whk assessment. Our specialists ensure that you are guaranteed a correct assessment and the lowest possible claims burden. Submitting a request for revision to the Tax Authorities and then a request for a refund of overpaid premiums in the past is also possible. Overpaid premiums can be reclaimed retroactively for up to five years. You can object to the Whk assessment you will soon receive up to six weeks after the date of issue.
Prevention
According to the law, an employer is financially responsible for a WGA benefit for up to ten years. Usually, two years of salary have already been paid according to the Gatekeeper Improvement Act (Wet verbetering poortwachter). In addition to thoroughly checking the Whk assessment, it is therefore important to focus on prevention, to avoid absenteeism or tackle it effectively. At De Verzuimmakelaar, we can support you in creating a safe and healthy working environment. We also offer training and coaching to give you more insight, increase your knowledge, and help you acquire the necessary skills. Our case managers are happy to tell you more about this.
