Who is Mirelle Klijs?
Mirelle will not be a stranger to many LTC members. She has been a member of our club for years, has done volunteer work including the PR committee, and can now often be found on the padel court.
Mirelle: “I really enjoy playing padel. I still play tennis, but I find padel more fun with others. You’re closer together and therefore in constant contact. I like that, and that’s what I come for. Everyone wants to score their point, so it’s also quite competitive and energetic. For me, that’s pure enjoyment. That’s why I was just as happy to renew our sponsorship contract for the padel court.”
Who is the Verzuimmakelaar?
Mirelle started her business in Uden with 2deSpoor, a company focused on absenteeism and appropriate reintegration of employees. This start-up has since grown into four companies that are internationally active in all aspects and areas of work absenteeism. In companies and organizations, this is a current topic. Reducing absenteeism is not only financially beneficial but also especially good for the work climate. Staff shortages, changing schedules, extra shifts—these are all stress-increasing factors.
The Verzuimmakelaar supports companies as a certified occupational health service with policy advice and direct support. You can turn to them with all your questions about HR policy, absenteeism policy, prevention, and employment law matters.
McCourse provides training for managers to better address the legal, policy, and social aspects of absenteeism. For example, they offer practical courses to quickly master skills such as conducting a good absenteeism interview.
One2Talk is a great tool to proactively address absenteeism. This newest addition focuses on the individual employee, who can anonymously turn to a coach.
Mirelle: “Burnout is an accumulation of small things that together become so big you can’t get out of it. You lose control over daily matters. As a company and as a person, you don’t want it to get that far. But people hesitate to go to their boss when things aren’t going well. You don’t like to admit that you can’t manage anymore. One2Talk focuses on mental well-being. The sooner you take action when things aren’t going well, the better. The great thing about this service is that the employer signs a contract with us for coaching, and employees can use it completely anonymously. As an employer, you show that you care about your staff. For the employee, the threshold to talk to someone is low. As a company, we have a solid base of coaches. There are 58 professional coaches across the country ready to help with any questions.”
“In all my companies, my motto is: see each other, pay attention! That alone helps. The brain produces dopamine from good contact, from a good conversation. That can be just the energy you need to start solving problems yourself.”
The meaning of being a sponsor
Pay attention, see each other! For Mirelle, this motto doesn’t just apply in her businesses. It’s her way of being active and social in the world.
Mirelle: “If we as entrepreneurs in Uden don’t sponsor, then who will? Without sponsors, you don’t have a thriving club life. Just as club life can’t exist without volunteers. Through our company, we do a lot of social things. It’s quite a list! Many of them are sports-related because I simply enjoy sports myself. LTC, of course, but also UDI and for a short time the hockey club. We contribute to 22Q11 and every year we put up a wish tree in the shop window. People can hang a wish for someone else in it. We fulfill some of those wishes. We also support Stichting De Goeie Reis, a travel organization for seniors who need care and support. I choose most of the charities myself. My employees choose a charity each year with money I set aside for them. Every month, €10 per employee goes into the charity fund. That money doesn’t come from their salary but from company profits. This year, the money went to the Wensambulance. Besides giving money, we also do things, like a partnership with Campus in the Handelshuys and this year a dinner with the elderly from St Jan. That makes everyone happy.”
Spontaneous support
Among the many examples, Mirelle tells of a spontaneous sponsorship action. Here, Mirelle’s speed and generosity are evident: “I was at the bakery recently and happened
